Chris walks through why heat and temperature are two different things, refreshes the joule and the Specific Heat Capacity of water (4.18 kJ/kg/°C), and shows the bridge between the plumbing world and the physics world one cubic metre of water equals 1,000 litres equals 1,000 kilograms. Then a full worked cylinder example: 0.5 m diameter, 0.9 m tall, cold in at 10°C, stored at 60°C. You'll finish knowing exactly how to calculate the heat energy required and the immersion power needed to deliver it in one hour and why a standard 3 kW element takes three-plus hours to recover a 180-litre tank.
